1. Pompidou Modern Art Gallery

Since classical times, traveling artists have used the history, landscape, and culture of Paris and the French countryside for creative inspiration.  Writers from Erasmus to Hemingway to Gertrude Stein and artists from da Vinci to van Gogh to Picasso produced some of their most creative works in these areas of France.  Creative Writing and Artistic Expression Abroad 11 gives students the opportunity to explore and improve their writing and artistic skills while immersed in the history, landscape, and culture of France

The course is divided into four sections: Foundations, during which students are introduced to and explore the work of major writers and artists who chose France as the inspiration for their work; Experience, during which students respond to the history, art, and culture of Paris; Expressions, during which students write, draw, and paint in the French countryside, while experiencing the culture and landscape of this rural setting; and Realization, in which students finish and gather their artistic responses and creative work into a portfolio that will be presented to their community. This portfolio will serve as enrichment their high school humanities education. Writing and art from this course could also be used to help students gain acceptance to university art or writing programs.  This course will also add to the variety of elective options available to students, giving them more flexibility in their regular year schedule.  Finally, students will develop their global acumen while improving their ability to interpret and respond to writing and art through their own creative expression.
